我们的车子转弯后,大家可以注意一下,在我们的右前方有一个索道站.这个索道站就是闻名遐迩的天门山景区上山索道站.天门山是张家界海拔最高的山,主峰1518.6米,它距城区仅8公里，因自然奇观天门洞而得名。天门山古称嵩梁山，又名云梦山,是张家界最早载入史册的名山,它于1992年7月被批准为国家森林公园。三国吴永安六年(公元263年)，嵩梁山顶部之处峭壁忽然洞开，玄朗如门，吴帝孙休视之为吉兆，天门洞开之说流传天下，嵩梁山也由此更名为天门山。1999年12月8日至11日，张家界市举办的“穿越天门”99世界特技飞行大奖赛就是在这里举行，世界顶级的飞员表演师驾机从天门山洞中穿过去，当时由中央电视台同步直播，全世界大概有8亿人观看了实况直播，引起了很大的轰动效应。自此以后天门山景区闻名海内外。
